My Story
In short; I'm a creatively driven, detail oriented Mechanical Engineer with over 5 years experience in the Automotive manufacturing industry. I'm seeking employment in a similar field, where I can utilise my design aptitude, leadership experience and passion to overcome real-world problems and challenges.
Feel free to continue reading my story, or scroll to the section below to find out more about my skills and experience.
My path to engineering begins in the shed with my Dad and Grandad (a proud cabinet maker), where as a young child I began to learn basic trade skills and picked up a meticulous attention to detail.
This interest in making things developed a mechanical flavour throughout my childhood, fueled a fascination for MECANO and Lego Technics sets, of which I was gifted many for birthdays and Christmases. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of piecing the puzzle together, and the subsequent reward: a feeling of achievement and pride upon miniature project, complete with functioning drivetrain and electric actuation. As far I was concerned, the more complex moving parts, the better. I was also fortunate enough to have had access to a plethora of How Stuff Works books from a young age, and never ceased to be enthralled at the inner workings of the machines that make the world go round.
In my adolescence, I became more involved in the automotive scene, learning through a variety of online resources. While I had always been fascinated with the large scale production of automotive mass producers, I developed a new appreciation for the finesse and niche catering of low volume manufacturers. One in particular, Koenigsegg, stood out to me, a relatively small company, but automotive leader in extremely high performance cars at the time, well ahead of the pack and ahead of their time in terms of carbon-fibre manufacturing in production vehicles.
All this eventually lead me here, to the early stages of my career. Now with a variety of experience in a whole range manufacturing techniques in the rail and automotive industries, from metal fabrication, fibre reinforced plastics, additive manufacturing to polyurethane foam, I have had exposure in some way to every corner of the Industry.
My Skills
Technical
Manufacturing Design
Having had over 5 years of experience in the manufacturing industry, I have exposure to design and manufacturing using composite materials (carbon fibre, fibreglass, wet laid and resin infused), steels and aluminium (Hand and CNC cut, MIG and TIG welding), polyurethanes (hand poured and injection moulded), Timber and MDF, Plastics (CNC cut, 3D Printed) and a variety of other manufacturing materials and techniques. In addition to designing for these materials and techniques, have also built up a proficiency in most through hands on experience.
Technical Drawing
Proficient in interpreting technical engineering drawings, as well as creating. Experience creating engineering drawings for a variety of purposes, tradespeople, consulting engineers, certifying engineers, overseas manufacturers and cutting programs for CNC operators.
CNC Operation, Commissioning and Repair
Experience in operating and maintaining CNC equipment. Namely CNC router tables and additive manufacturing equipment. Proficient in associated software (see below), troubleshooting and repair of these machines.
Software
Plethora of experience in nearly all of the Microsoft suite, including Excel VBA, as well as CAD software such as Solidworks and Solid Edge, FEA, Toolpath. Set up a small scale Manufacturer Resource Planning system. Also have programming experience in MATLAB, Python, and G-Code for NC machining. Experience in operating and maintaining CNC equipment. Namely CNC router tables and additive manufacturing equipment. Proficient in associated software (see below), troubleshooting and repair of these machines.
Transferable
Leadership
My time in industry, academia, and with my extracurricular activities has taught me an array of valuable leadership skills. When the chips are down, I am confident that with the right research and preparation, I am capable of leading any number of engineering projects to satisfaction.
Attention to Detail
I always strive to take pride in my work, making sure anything I produce performs as best as it can, taking the time to constantly iteratively improve it where applicable. I make sure wherever I can that every facet of my work was crafted to the best of my ability
Communication
Strong command of English and literature, wealth of experience in writing, verbal communication and comprehension. Everything from operators manuals, work instructions, technical reports, and both participating in and documenting formal meetings in a variety of settings.
Adaptability
I am a fast learner and can work in a wide variety of environments efficiently. When provided a new skill to learn or provided and opportunity to add a new experience to my portfolio, I have proven to be willing to take on new things whatever they may be.
